Mobilisation at Saint-Gobain HQ in Paris
Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 11:35 Hrs

On 20 May member trade unions organized a mobilisation at the Saint-Gobain headquarters in Paris. (updated 22 May)

After Belgium and the Netherlands, Italy has been hit the most by the restructuring at Saint-Gobain, mainly in the glass sector.

• Closure of the Sekurit plant in Savigliano: 225 workers and 73 indirect job losses

• Restructuring of Euroveder in Cervasca: 143 jobs lost on a total of 250

• One-year closure of historic factory Float in Pisa, with no guarantee to re-open, but only a commitment to rebuilt and restart the oven; related restructuring and loss of 70 jobs

• There are serious reservations on the continuation of the production at the Flovetro plant in San Salvo

• Following an earlier action, on 30 April in Milan, Italian unions will protest the restructuring during today's meeting of the European social dialogue at the Saint-Gobain HQ in Paris.

EMCEF affiliate trade unionists of Belgium, France and other countries will join the Italian workers at the protest, and will use this opportunity to voice our opposition to the restructuring and job cuts.
