Austria: Opposition to Novartis closure

After the short notice announcement to close the Novartis Research Centre in Vienna and to cut hundreds of jobs, GPA-DJP announced that it will not accept this decision without opposition. Together with the works council and the workers they will make use of all options to stop the closure of the research centre.
 Novartis plans further closures and restructuring measures in other European countries like Germany, France, United Kingdom and Switzerland. Novartis is joining the list of multinational companies closing locations and cutting jobs in Europe, despite record incomes over the last years. The company is no longer meeting its social responsibilities with this policy, but only looking after stockholder interests.
EMCEF is following the developments in this case in close cooperation with the Austrian colleagues.
